Benign cystic mesothelioma typically occurs in females
Benign cystic mesothelioma is a rare pathology, and only 19 cases have been described in male patients. In the case reported here, a minimally invasive laparoscopic approach allowed a histological diagnosis of benign cystic mesothelioma.
This cystic structure was incidentally found during laparoscopy in a 50-year-old woman whose ultrasound scan suggested an ovarian cyst or a possible hydrosalpinx. The cyst was removed and was histologically identified as a benign cystic mesothelioma, which in itself is an extremely rare tumour.
We report a case of a benign cystic mesothelioma in a 44-year-old man. The patient was asymptomatic, and the cystic formation was discovered by chance.

Cystic mesotheliomas are benign neoplasms, often seen in the parietal and visceral peritoneum, omentum and pelvic organs, and are exceedingly rare in the liver.
